  • Is everybody incompetent?

    Not y'all, of course. 8-}

    OK, so we're just about ready - after several delays because the guy kept calling the wrong bank to get the info he needed - to sign the papers for the refi. Oh, hang on, says the agent who's been putting the whole deal together. We can't finance your home. It's a mobile. No duh, dude! We told you that the first time we spoke to you. The guy has been saying all along it'll go through with no problems. Now the whole thing is dead in the water because we live in a modular on a 'large' acreage. Translation: the land is worth more than the home. This has really thrown a monkey wrench in the works. I had plans for that 'extra' money. Like eating reg'lar.

    I have been young, and now am old;
    yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken,
    nor his seed begging bread.
    - Psalm 37:25

    I've been reminding myownself of the times God 'came through' at the last minute. When DS was about 4, we were looking forward to a very meager Christmas. On Christmas Eve, the mail came late. In it was an envelope from the power company. It didn't look like a 'pay or else' notice, so I reckoned Duller hadn't forgotten to pay the bill, after all. There was a letter inside informing us that, because of our great payment record, we were getting back our deposit. Sure enough, there was a check inside. Now the really interesting part is, we didn't HAVE a great payment record. We got 'reminders' nearly every month and paid at the very last possible minute. When Duller got home, we had just enough time to run out and buy a few presents. Ain't God GOOD?!

    I have to admit, I start to get a little discouraged sometimes, especially when I start thinking about how much things right now are like they were 20 years ago. But overall, I (mostly) manage to put worry aside and rest in the knowledge that God is an on-time God. The thing that really irks me is that these people aren't held accountable in any way. He just says OOPS, and that's the end of it for him.

    The other biggie is that Duller remains clueless. He's always been pound foolish and no matter how many times it lands us in a stew, he keeps making the same mistakes. (What's that definition of insanity?) Anyhow, he's a bit miffed with me right now, cozz I put my foot down the other day and refused his request to do something stupid yet again. Yes, it's going to make things really, really tight for a while, but one of us has to look at the big picture. I've already given in too many times and it has lowered my credit score. (Don't even get me started on that!)

    Well, if you're still reading, you're a real pal.  And I'd be ever so grateful for your prayers that we squeak through this financial down time and that Duller gets a clue.

    And to end this on a cheerier note.... LAAAAAAAA... I had to tighten the drawstring on my shorts today. cheerldrpianodnc

    Y'all have a JESUS-filled day! ^i^

  • A Woman's Prayer
    I need Wisdom to understand my man;
    Love to forgive him; And Patience for his moods;
    Because, if I pray for Strength, I'll beat him to death!
    Amen

  • Will this weekend never end?! Not that it hasn't been nice, but it just seems to go on forever. Duller had Columbus Day off, so he isn't leaving till later today. Meanwhile, he's making a lot of busy work for hisownself, so he doesn't have time to do the 2 or 3 things I wanted/needed him to do.He's gotten really good at that.

    We never made it to Cedar Key the other day.We just lollygagged along the way, taking this back road and that and finally decided we'd been gone long enough and headed home about 2 hours short of our original goal. We did make it to our favourite DQ - they closed ours for some reason - and had the best hamburger in this quarter of the state. My big dietary splurge for the week. yumlck

    I'm trying to muster up enough gumption to go to the fish market in the hopes they have some fresh shrimp. I just read something about their migrating out to deeper waters now. I need a boat so I can go catch my own. Think of all the money I'd save by buying a boat.

    OK, now for my new prayer request... please tell me how I can pray for you today.
    And may God bless!

    Have a JESUS-filled day! ^i^

  • OK, how's this for early? DS and I are heading out the door for Cedar Key to do some early bird watching. Figgers.. I had trouble getting to sleep last night, so I'm bleary-eyed right now. On the bright side, I didn't wake up every hour or so. But when I tried to catch another 1/2 hour, Duller - who is home for the weekend - got chatty. When I finally got him to shut up, the dog started barking. Then he rolled over. Then DS opened a window. Then Duller rolled over again. So I gave up and now I have to wait for DS, who suddenly had one more thing to do before we leave. And now Duller decides he might as well get up, too, and take the dog for a walk. Hmmmm... I coulda stayed in bed, in peace, a while longer. MEN!

    OK, DS seems to be about ready now. Y'all enjoy your games - what's the deal, anyhow, with baseball and football overlapping??? - or whatever you have planned for the weekend.

    Have a JESUS-filled day!

  • I'm up, I'm dressed, what more do you want?

    Well, I slept a little later this morning, but I was up before 9. 8-} Once again,. I woke up 4-5 times during the night. I think my body thinks I'm taking a nap. Tomorrow should be interesting. I have a day trip planned, and hope to be out the door by7. rofl

    I think every nut in the state was out today. They must've known it was my 'trip to the big city' day. Everywhere I went, somebody was doing something stupid. Some ditzy woman kept weaving back and forth over the center line. Guess what, She was on a cell phone. I had to slow down to avoid a head-on with some nut who couldn't wait till it was safe to pass. Then some other oncoming guy thought he might like my side better. Thankfully, he changed his mind before we met by accident.

    I stopped at Arby's up there, coz I love their chicken tenders and sour cream ranch. All Arby's are not created equal. The ranch was room temp - supposed to be kept refrigerated - and runny. UGH! Also, I asked for 'lots of ranch' and got ONE container and one tiny cuplet of some kinda ranchy stuff they squirted in.

    About halfway home, with 2 bags full of frozen groceries, I remembered I was supposed to pay the house insurance. So I drove right past the place, brought home the food, wrote the check and hit the road again. DS tagged along and we stopped at the extension office to check out the bird action. Just a few commoners there. And one Red-headed Woodpecker. I love those guys.

    OH! Good news of the day! I'm down a total of 15 pounds now! WAHOO!!!!! I can't believe how easy it's been! Basically, I'm taking the recommended supplements to boost my thyroid and cutting back on bread. Imagine what I could accomplish if I - cover your ears, kids - exercised! Maybe I'll try that if I can find my treadmill under the mountain of clothes, pillows, etc.

    Y'all have a JESUS-filled Saturday! ^i^

  • Thanks ever so for the prayers, y'all! I went to sleep early (for me) and woke up about 5-6 times during the night. But I was able to go back to sleep pretty quickly each time. I got up around 7, or thereabouts, and went to the refuge while it was still cool out. By the time I started back, I had peeled off the flannel shirt and turned on the AC. My reward for getting there early was a Great Horned Owl! Not a whole lot else to get excited over, but it was a really nice morning. And it made me stop thinking constantly about my nose.  Too busy fighting the mosquito hordes!

    So, why am I sitting here after midnight again? Good question! I think I'll pry myself off here now and see if I can't establish a new early morning habit. rofl  God bless y'all hugely!

    Have a JESUS-filled day! ^i^

  • Prayer request revisited

    Well, it's been about 6 weeks since the last one. Two nosebleeds today, for no apparent reason. Brief and pretty minor, but quite distressing. to say the least. Please pray for/with me that God will see fit to remove this affliction once and for all. I'm very strong about most things and can take a whole lot, but this nosebleed thing is very nearly emotionally overwhelming. Catch 22 - elevated blood pressure could possibly cause another one.

    Anyhow, I'm going to try to get to sleep early tonight and hope it'll be all better in the morning. Thanks ever so, y'all, for always 'being there'. God bless!

    Have a JESUS-filled day! ^i^

  • As promised,. here are the links I used most for holidays, birthdays and events:

    The Daily Globe - this is where I find most of the 'holidays'... not always 100% accurate, but better than most I've found
    IMDB - this is probably the most reliable source for birthdays - click on the date and you'll find a list including more than just Hollywood types
    Wikipedia - probably 98% reliable for birthdays and events
    American Food Holidays - in case the Daily Globe misses
    Scopes System - my original source - usually has birthdays that Wikipedia missed, and some 'church' history
    Today in Florida History
    Jewish Holidays
    Christian Birthdays - at the end of the month, there's a link to the next month in the bottom section

  • I didn't get much sleep last night. About 1.30AM, as I was typing away on the puter, Duller came in and informed me we had no water. Do y'all have any idea how hard it is to find a plumber (well digger in this case) in the wee hours on party night? Much less one who's willing to drive out to the boonies. We finally did find someone who said he was about 20 minutes away, but wouldn't be out for at least an hour. Apparently, he wanted to have a pot of coffee first, bless his heart, just in case he'd had one too many at his cousin's party. When he finally got here, just after 3, Duller dragged out the 5-million candlepower (think stadium) light and trudged out to the well with him. About an hour and just under $200 later, the water flowed once more. Around 5.30 (or so) AM, I finally managed to drift off for a few hours. I tried to get up around 9.30, but I can't pull that off anymore. I finally gave up about 10:30 and curled up with my Sudoku book. Next thing I knew, it was 2.45PM! Now if we could just get the conditioner people to get off their keisters and figure out why our water is tan...

    Y'all have a JESUS-filled day!

  • Yesterday was my last 'this day is' day, but I just couldn't let Rob's birthday slip by without one last HURRAH!

    Rob generously shares his birthday with Julie Andrews, Walter Matthau, Vladimir Horowitz, George Peppard, Tom Bosley, Richard Harris, Richard Stockton, Stanley Holloway, Ted Healy, Bonnie Parker, James Whitmore, William Hubbs Rehnquist, Laurence Harvey, Bob Boyd, Stephen Collins, Randy Quaid, and Mandisa, among many other famous -and infamous - persons.

    Rob, I have 'met' quite a few people online and a scant handful have become great friends. I'm so honoured to count you among that few. You have a knack for saying something really sweet just when I need to hear it. (Thanks for that!) And I so admire your outspoken willingness to storm the gates of hell and the unwavering courage of your convictions. Wishing you the happiest, most memorable birthday ever. Thanks ever so for standing in the gap when the rest of us are weak and weary and catching our breath in the wings.
